Which bathroom are you starting from?

Houses here span several building eras, and each era left a different bathroom behind. Where you start decides most of the job.

A dated 1970s bathroom with green tile, a matching green tub and a long double vanityDesign rendering

1970s

The original bath nobody touched

Colored tile, a matching tub, a textured ceiling. Usually a full strip to the studs, with older materials checked before anyone cuts into them.

1980s

The tub alcove with sliding doors

Framed glass, small square tile, a tub nobody bathes in. The alcove often becomes a walk-in shower without moving a wall.

1990s

The one-piece stall and cultured marble

A fiberglass unit and a builder vanity. A refresh that keeps the layout is the budget route, if the floor under the shower is sound.

Travertine and a jetted tub on a deck

The big primary bath with glass block and a raised tub. The usual plan: tub off the deck, and a shower twice the size.

A Calabasas bathroom permit comes from the city's own office

The city has its own office

Calabasas runs its own Building and Safety Division. Its plan check reviews the drawings, its permit center issues the permit, and its inspectors check the work in the field.

A mailing address can mislead

Some homes with a Calabasas address, in Monte Nido for one, sit in unincorporated Los Angeles County. Their permits come from a county Building and Safety office, not the city.

The shower gets a water test

The state plumbing code, section 408.8.5, has the shower floor filled with at least 2 inches of water for 15 minutes to prove it is watertight. Calabasas inspectors need to see work before it is covered, so this happens before any tile.

What the job looks like from inside the house

Floors covered, the room sealed off, and the mess kept behind plastic until it is done. The master bathroom guide follows one room through all six stages, from demolition to the finished bath.

What a bathroom remodel costs here

Price follows scope: keep the layout, move the shower, or take the room to the studs. What sits behind the old tile decides the rest.

How the referral works

  1. Tell us about the room

Which bathroom, what you want, and the address, so the permit office is clear from the start.

  2. One licensed contractor calls

Your request goes to one contractor, not a list. You set a time for a visit and a written estimate.

  3. You decide

No obligation. Look up the license on the state license board's site before you sign anything.

Straight answers

Is this site the contractor?

No. This site connects you with one licensed contractor, and that contractor does the work. Nobody here remodels bathrooms.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Usually, yes. The city lists bathroom remodels that replace drywall or change the plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems as work that needs a permit, while tiling alone does not (City of Calabasas FAQs). The permit guide goes through the rest.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Longer than the tile work suggests. Permits, inspections and custom glass set the pace, and the contractor puts a schedule in the estimate.

Are the pictures real jobs?

No. Every image here is a design rendering, labelled as one, made to show what each kind of remodel looks like.
